It’s safe to say the World Cup has been set alight as Portugal and Spain played out an astounding 3-3 draw in Sochi, leaving Iran top of the group after match day one.

Cristiano Ronaldo was the star for Portugal, bagging a hat-trick. His first came from the spot inside two minutes, before Diego Costa equalised with some superb strength, skill, and grit 15 minutes later.

Spain hit the bar through Isco with an astounding shot shortly after, but Ronaldo restored Portugal’s lead with a drive straight through David De Gea before half-time.

Diego Costa bagged his second from a clever set piece routine to draw the scores level again, before Nacho Fernandez gave La Roja the lead with a contender for goal of the tournament.

It was Ronaldo who was the hero for Portugal though, as he produced a trademark free kick reminiscent of that free kick against Portsmouth for Manchester United some years ago.
