Croatia moved to the top of Group D following a routine victory over Nigeria in the day’s late kick off.

Mario Mandzukic’s presence forced an own goal for Croatia from Oghenekaro Etebo in the first-half, before a Luka Modric added a second from the penalty spot in the second-half.

Modric took the fifth penalty of the day, with at least one given in each game across a busy Saturday. He became the third scorer following Antoine Griezmann’s well dispatched effort, which was matched by Mile Jedinak in Group C’s early kick-off.

Nigeria have the odds stacked against them for qualification now, with Iceland impressing in their 1-1 draw with Argentina.
