Mile Jedinak was the hero for Australia as he bagged from the spot for the second game running to cancel out Christian Eriksen’s opener in the day’s early kick-off.
Denmark opened the scoring inside ten minutes when Eriksen smashed home a left-footed drive into the top corner of Matt Ryan’s net from the edge of the penalty area.
Yussuf Poulsen played the villain again for the Danes when he gave away a second penalty in two games, at the hands of VAR. He was awarded a yellow card – which will now see him miss the final group stage game – for a contentious handball.
Kasper Schmeichel did his best to get in the head of Jedinak, but the Aussie was laser-focused and slotted into the same corner he found against Hugo Lloris in the opener, bringing a close to the scoring.
The draw leaves Denmark top of the group on four points, with France playing Peru this afternoon. Australia are hanging by a thread on a single point, whilst victory for France will see Peru out of the tournament on zero points before kicking a ball in their final game.
