Group D was blown wide open as Nigeria defeated Iceland to set up a remarkable final round of group stage fixtures.

Two brilliant goals from Ahmed Musa were enough for Nigeria, who now sit second – behind the already qualified Croatia – in the chase for the last sixteen.

A late penalty was awarded to Iceland thanks to VAR once again, however Everton man Gylfi Sigurdsson skied his effort from the spot despite sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

With Argentina to play Nigeria and Croatia to play Iceland on the final day, and only one qualification place remaining, victory over Nigeria will be enough for Lionel Messi’s men should Iceland fail to defeat Croatia.

The group could yet come down to goal difference should both Nigeria earn a point or both Argentina and Iceland win. The final Group D encounters will kick off at 7pm on June 26.
